Handfinished with gold paint Limited to 10 FineArt Giclée Prints on handmade paper The artwork »Danaë 2020« refers to the ambivalence of loneliness. The initial painting by Klimt is the basis of this reinterpretation. The story is about Danaë who got imprisoned by her father King Akrisios of Argos. From one day to the other he stole her freedom. But that did not prevent Zeus, the father of the gods, to be with her. So he approached her in form of a shower of gold. This can also be transferred to the present. Our smartphone represents the golden rain, which was the only way to have contact to the outside world. The social isolation during the pandemic has clearly shown us this again. On the one hand, loneliness is frightening and can lead to depression. On the other hand, loneliness can also be a kind of mental relaxation in which one can gather new strength, rearrange one‘s thoughts and promote creativity. While the digital world helps us to stay in touch with our friends and family, it will never replace a real, physical, meeting, especially a hug.
